Solo mum New Zealand’s top young nurse

The team at Hauraki PHO are incredibly proud their colleague, Rosita Richards, who has been named  the joint recipient of the New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) Young Nurse of the Year Award.

Hugh Kininmonth , Hauraki PHO’s CEO, describes Rosita as a wonderful addition to the PHO’s Manawanui Whai Ora Kaitiaki (Community Long Term Conditions) team, and a fantastic role model for the Maori health workforce. This is illustrated by snippets from the nomination essay: “Rosita is astute, caring and compassionate, friendly with a supportive outlook to both her colleagues and patients/whanau.

“She understands how long term conditions impact on lives especially Maori and those who are in hardship either socially or financially. Comfortable with Te Reo, she connects culturally with whanau and Kaumatua to link services and key people to improve understanding or care of the long term condition.

“She is well respected in our team and we see her as a future leader of nursing.

“Whāia te iti kahurangi ki te tūohu koe me he maunga teitei.

“Search for great things if one has to bow let it be to a lofty mountain.
