Christmas comes early for our Waikids

Children in Waikato Hospital’s Waikids wards have Spark staff and Whitcoulls customers to thank for some very special gifts.

More than 200 Whitcoulls customers purchased a teddy bear in store, some of which will be given as Christmas presents with the others given throughout the year.

Savannah Valvoi, 9, says her bear was “so soft”.

Spark staff donated toys a-plenty; the bundle included Lego, chalk, board games and more.

Staff members at the Waikids play specialist department captured the children’s hearts when they visited the wards dressed as superheroes. Department staff visit the kids each year sporting a different theme.

Play specialist Suzanne Minns said “there was lots of excitement and smiles from children, families and staff”.

The superheroes brought with them face painting, singing, popcorn, and superhero lollypops.

“Thank you to those who contributed, your generosity will bring smiles to many,” she said.
