Phil Wood appointed Health of Older Persons Chief Advisor

Phil WoodDr Phil Wood has joined the Ministry of Health as Chief Advisor, Health of Older Persons.

Phil will provide clinical leadership to develop services key to the health and wellbeing of older people, and will undertake sector engagement.

From Monday 1 December, he will be based in the National Services Purchasing team and will work closely with staff from across the Ministry, and with external agencies such as ACC and the Health Quality & Safety Commission, to better develop services for older people nationwide.

His work will particularly focus on areas such as interRAI assessments and other aspects of aged residential care and home and community support services.

Phil joins us on a three-year secondment from Waikato DHB, where he has been involved in leading approaches to the health of older people. He will continue to support specific clinical projects at the DHB, spending one day every second week in the Waikato.
