Health professionals are being encouraged to continue to promote Influenza vaccination in particular high risk groups, including pregnant women.
As we are now in Influenza season, and have cases of Influenza circulating in the Waikato, a reminder has gone out to GPs to encourage their eligible patients to get the annual Influenza vaccine – but in particular those who are at higher risk of more severe illness and complications of disease.
These groups include high risk pregnant women, and those with chronic disease. Immunisation is free for these groups.
“As health professionals, please make sure that you have also been vaccinated with this year’s seasonal influenza vaccine,” writes Waikato District Health Board medical officer of health Dr Anita Bell, in the message to general practice.
Nationally, seasonal Influenza viruses circulating are typically those seen in this season’s Influenza vaccine.
